About SM Immigration Lawyers

Built from lived experience. Shaped by law. Driven by impact.

SM Immigration Lawyers was created to make professional immigration support feel clearer, more human and better connected to the communities it serves.

Our work brings together immigration advice, community partnerships and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion expertise — because legal problems rarely exist in isolation from people’s families, workplaces, identities and everyday lives.

This firm did not begin with a business plan. It began with a belief that people deserve to understand their rights, be heard and know where to turn next.

Our Story

From resilience to purpose

Samar Mandalawi’s professional journey is rooted in lived experience as well as legal training. After living through two wars in Iraq and rebuilding her life in Scotland, she developed a strong commitment to supporting people facing uncertainty, displacement and barriers to opportunity.

She went on to study law in Dundee and build extensive frontline experience supporting ethnic minority communities, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Her work has included community organisations, the third sector and local authorities.

SM Immigration Lawyers grew from that combination of personal understanding and professional experience: a firm designed not simply to process applications, but to give people clear guidance, dignity and a stronger sense of control over what happens next.

Beyond Individual Casework

Connecting frontline experience with wider change

Our work with community organisations, public bodies and local partners gives us a wider view of the barriers people encounter when trying to navigate immigration systems and public services.

That is why our ambition extends beyond resolving individual questions. We want to help create stronger referral networks, improve cultural understanding and contribute practical insight to organisations designing services for migrant communities.

Community PartnershipWorking alongside organisations that already have local trust.
